According to a new report from 9to5Google, the next generation of Google's wireless router was spotted at the FCC this week, suggesting that the company may soon launch a new version of the wifi system.
The two devices appear to be different sizes, based on FCC compliance labels which unfortunately offer very little indication of the overall design or form factor. If all the rumors are true, we expect to see a new Google WiFi network hub connecting to your home network and a secondary Google WiFi network with an assistant assistant expected to be completed in your Google Canvas cover.
Assuming the cost is complete, there is no reference to WiFi 6 or 802.11ax in the deposit at all, so Google has chosen not to certify WiFi 6 devices at this point, but can activate them later. It is also possible that the device is not compatible with WiFi 6 at all.
According to the report, Google has a different approach to the 2G router. "Our sources indicate that Google is adopting an Eero-like package with Nest Wifi," the report says. "Google's first Wifi multibeam included several wireless routers, while Nest Wifi's second generation provides a basic router with other smaller signals. The main router won't double.
Not surprisingly, there is a second version of the Google Networking suite on the way - the original Google Wifi products launched in October 2016, so it can be argued that the update was delayed if Google wanted to remain at the forefront of technological home networks.
Add Google's keenness to bring all its gadgets at home under the name Nest, and it seems likely that the Nest Wifi router package will be launched sooner rather than later.
